What Causes Aging?

by admin on October 23, 2011

What causes aging? Scientists and Doctors have debunked that we age in two ways. There is internal aging called Intrinsic and then there is external aging called Extrinsic. Let’s now look deeper into the two ways we age to help us understand more in what causes aging.

Internal Aging (aka Intrinsic) refers to our natural aging process. We all age it is inevitable, though we can slow down the process downt by eating foods that help fight again skin aging. We also can use great anti aging skin care products, or undergoing surgery. We officially start to age in our mid 20’s as our bodies start to slow down. This is a long gradual process that usually doesn’t start to show till you’re in your 40’s or 50’s. That is why it is important to take care of our skin when we are young so it will still look good when the natural aging process finally catches up with us. Still the aging starts in our mid 20’s as our bodies slowly start to produce less collagen, and new skin cell turn out starts to slow down which in part can start to create problems. With the slow down production of collagen our skin starts to loose it elasticity and firmness resulting in starting to see your skin sag, and fine lines form. In the slowing down of new skin cell production this mean dead skin cells may linger on our skin more giving us a dull lifeless complexion. This is because no new cells are being produced to push them off to reveal the newer glowing skin underneath. Our skin also starts to lose its natural moisture which is why dry skin is common problem when in the elderly.

External Aging (aka Extrinsic) refers to aging that is contributed due to outside elements. The sun is one perfect example of external aging. It is an outside element that helps contribute to the aging process. Too much sun exposure leads to what is called premature aging for it can easily age the skin immensely way before your skin should start showing any signs of aging yet.  Other outside factors can contribute to aging which are smoking, poor diet, making the same facial muscle over and over again.  An example can be say if you have bad eye sight where you constantly have to squint to read something. This will soon lead to creating fine line wrinkles around your eyes.

Still what causes aging? Scientists still are not sure completely sure on all of what causes aging, but what they do know is that the way we age does rest with our genetics. In fact our genes are what controls our aging process, and how fast our aging process will be. For example one might start to see graying hair as soon as their mid to late 20’s while others may not start to see gray hairs till way into their 40’s.
