Caring for Combination Skin

by admin on October 24, 2011

Having combination skin can be aggravating. What happens with combination skin is normally the forehead, nose, and sometimes chin areas (Also known at the T Zone area) are oily while your cheeks usually suffer by being overly dry. This results in your constant struggle to try and balance out your skin tone keeping the oily section non greasy, and the dry section hydrated. To do this though you do not need a lot of skin care products like you think you do. The key to caring for combination skin is not trying to find the best product. It is about learning about your skin type, and how to care for it properly.

Tips for Caring for Combination Skin

Caring for combination skin does not have to be that difficult once you know how to care for it properly. Here are some tips and guidelines to follow when it comes to caring for combination skin.

Wash with mild cleanser – You do not need any special facial cleaners for combination skin. Most of those are harsh and very skin drying. Nor do you need to wash your face with two types of cleansers. Just one mild cleanser that will help erase the dirt and oil and make-up from your face will do. Also remember to wash morning and night.

Use Alcohol free toners/Astringents – When it comes to combination skin the goal is to get your skin in balance. To help with the oily section toners and astringents can be useful to help control excess oil on your T-Zone area without affecting your dry area. A tip though it to make sure the toners/ astringents are always alcohol free to help reduce drying out your skin.

Moisturize with light weight, and oil free moisturizers – Another key when it comes to caring for combination skin is you need to moisturize your dry areas without making your oily areas oilier. To do that chooses a moisturizer that is light weight and oil free. This way it will not interfere with your oily section making it worse.

Choose oil free make up – Make sure your make up is oil free too. Oil based make -up is bad for any skin type period, but can especially cause problem on combination skin.

Exfoliate – By exfoliating at least once a week you can help keep your combination skin in balance. Using just a simple facial exfoliation scrub can work nicely. If you really want to go all out though you can do a clay mask on your oily area and a moisturizing mask on your dry areas to help balance out your combination skin.

Remember if your combination skin gets worse of other symptoms manifest consult with your dermatologist. Having combination skin can also be a sign of another skin condition called seborrhea as well as its close relative seborrhea eczema and seborrhea dermatitis.
